Wednesday's Writing Workout!

Vasiliki Millousi (Greece)

On the weekends, prompts keep my creativity warmed up so I don’t “pull a muscle” on Monday morning. During the week, prompts jump-start my writing routine. Consider using your own characters and settings for these prompts. You might come up with dazzling new ideas for your WiP! All you’ll need for these exercises is your writing materials and an open mind. Remember to drink lots of water and stretch!
Start it up!
Exercise 1
Write a scene in which your character has a close encounter with aliens from another planet! Are the otherworld beings friendly, hostile, curious, indifferent? What do they want with Earth? What do they want with your character?
Ramp it up!
Exercise 2
According to some people, the world is going to end in about five months. Lighten up and write a comical story about the end of the world!
Burn it up!
Exercise 3
Curses are very popular explanations for unfortunate and disappointing seasons in the sports world. Write about such a curse in relation to the Olympic Games. Choose any sport (summer or winter), Olympic year, athlete, location, etc. Make it as comical or as serious as you like!
Every Wednesday I post prompts and exercises for your “writing workout” so keep checking back! Happy writing!!!

I love the idea about a humorous end of the world scenario. It's so counter-intuitive and mind-bendy. I may give this one a try :)

Oh yeah! Humorous 'end of world' story? That's a great prompt.

Hahaha I also love the sound of a humorous end-of-the-world story, although I have no idea how to approach it. :-D

I love the end of the world prompt, though I'd be interested in writing about aliens, too. Fun exercises as always!

A comical story about the end of the world? I like that approach. Why didn't I think of that?
